Getting Stirred Up
Most of us have a tendency to become apathetic in just about every area of our Christian life. Just because one is Born Again it does not mean that they will live their Christian life to its fullest potential. Instead the Christian life and its enthusiasm has to be continually nurtured and stirred.
Both Paul and Peter write to "stir up" the believers.
1) Stir Up the Gift of God - In You
2 Timothy 1:6 - "Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands."
Paul is telling Timothy to stir up that:
a. New Life - that is in you (Romans 6:23)
b. New Love - that is in you (Love Jesus, Love one another, Love the Bible, Love church, etc.)
c. New Labor - that is in you (Matthew 5:16; Ephesians 2:10)
d. New Look - that is in you (2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:1-2; Colossians 3:1-2; 1 John 3:2; Titus 2:13)
2) Stir Up the Grace of God - In You
2 Peter 1:13 - "Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up putting you in remembrance;"
This verse has to do with the Grace of God to live by. God has given us all the Grace to live by:
Joy Giving Grace
Victory Bringing Grace
3) Stir Up the Glory of God - In You
2 Peter 3:1 - "This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:"
This verse has to do with the future coming events. For the child of God it will be glorious. For the poor lost person it will be grievious.
But for God's people there's some glory right now. The Glory of:
His Presence - I have a Friend
His Pardon - I'm set free
His Promises - I'm in His economy
His Provisions - I'm supplied
His Peace - I'm assured of heaven
His Priesthood - I'm represented there
His Pleasure - I'm in His Kingdom
His Protection - I'm sealed by His Spirit
His Program - I'm in His program forever
His Performance - I'm made a new creature
His Palace - I'm entitled to a mansion in glory
